If you have a mechanical pocket watch, you’ll need to wind it once a day by pulling up the crown or pressing the pusher (check according to the type) and turning the winding stem in the opposite direction of the pocket watch hands about thirty times. Be careful not to overwind it as this may damage the spring of your watch. For an automatic pocket watch, follow the same procedures if you’re not wearing the watch. The movement of the pocket watch in your pocket or worn as a pendant around your neck will automatically wind the mechanism while you walk. If the watch seems stuck, shake it vigorously from side to side and up and down to unlock the small spring and restart the mechanism. If you have a quartz pocket watch, none of these steps should be done. When your timepiece stops running, replace the quartz battery by detaching the cover from the openings on the end with a small screwdriver or your fingertips. Choose the Japanese quartz, which is the true competitor of Swiss quartz at a lower price!
